Those who favor a return to the draft do so under the misconception that it would be more equitable than the current methods of selecting soldiers to fight in Iraq.
"Anything that boosts community dialogue and participation is an effective method of reintegrating former child soldiers into society – as well as preventing further child recruitment," says Guitard. "We need to make communities understand that it wasn't the choice of these children to be part of the conflict".
This induction method is useful for analyzing the developmental bases of soldier differentiation because individuals undergoing the differentiation are rare under natural conditions.
And even then, they argued, such devices — tripped remotely, often from hiding — were a cowardly, unchivalrous method of war, unbecoming of Southern soldiers.
"But there has been such a deterioration in the social and moral fabric that sexual violence has become a method of war, and not just soldiers do it, many civilians do, too," he said.
"When policing takes the place of soldiering as the primary method of guaranteeing the rule of law, we'll know we're succeeding in Iraq," Mr. Fuentes said.

The film also addresses deeper questions about modern methods of creating efficient soldiers and their long-term consequences.
