The present study investigated effects of two hypermedia environments on 95 preservice university teachers' self-regulated learning (SRL) in the context of technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPCK): hypermedia with metacognitive instruction (HYP + META) and without (HYP).
In both groups, related vocabulary was introduced prior to giving multiple choice reading test consisting of ten questions, but in the experimental group the learners were also exposed to metacognitive strategies (Socratic circle and shape shifting) as pre-reading activities.
This approach is more likely to motivate students to develop a usable knowledge foundation and problem-solving skills, and it should also facilitate the development of their metacognitive skills (NRC, 2000).
