In an interview last fall with Wired, David Marcus, a former PayPal president who now heads Messenger, noted that Facebook wants to eventually enable transaction-free payments for businesses, then make money when businesses pay to be featured or promoted.
While Marcus didn't clarify the exact requirements a device would have to meet in order to be able to use the mobile web version of Messenger, he noted that Facebook stopped serving the mobile web site to high-end devices, but not others.
Wiggins reckons the market for Facebook Messenger games is huge, noting that Facebook Messenger has 1.36 billion monthly users, but says that most games are simply existing experiences or titles being ported over.
The ad also boasts about apps that will allow Android and iPhone owners to use BlackBerry Messenger instant messaging, noting that the six million people who have signed up for notices about those apps "speaks to the tremendous opportunity we have to expand BBM beyond BlackBerry smartphones to make it the world's largest mobile social network".

Messenger, Marcus also noted in his post, now has over 900 million monthly active users, and over 1 billion messages are sent between people and businesses each month.
Along with the addition of the new capabilities, developers will also now be given more guidance from Facebook on how to build successful Messenger experiences, Marcus noted.
