High-pressure mercury lamps can be used for illumination purposes because the emissions from 405 to 546 nanometres are visible light of bluish green colour; by transforming a part of the mercury line emission to red light by means of a phosphor, white light is obtained.
Removal percentage of mercury was determined by concentrations of mercury in the waste solution before and after the nanoparticle contact with aid of cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometric technique (CV-AAS) at mercury line (253.7 nm).
However, Adelman and his co-workers have discovered, in observations made between 1993 and 1999 and published in 2002, that the mercury line in its spectrum at 398.4 nm varies as the primary rotates.

They are not mercury-lined which would, of course, make them poisonous.

Nevertheless, it became the preferred storage method for most of the early computers worldwide that were not already committed to mercury delay lines.
The earliest forms of computer main memory were mercury delay lines, which were tubes of mercury that stored data as ultrasonic waves, and cathode-ray tubes, which stored data as charges on the tubes' screens.
