All participants' color matches for the dull green, orange and brown cubes in the baseline and memory conditions are shown in Fig. 4.
Results showed the expected effect on mood (p < .002), with reported mood worst in the negative memory condition, better in the neutral condition, and best in the positive condition.
The design of the experiment and time course of the reasoning and memory conditions are shown in Fig. 1.
To control for potential circadian confounds, fMRI scanning took place at the same time of day than initial learning for each subject (all subjects being trained/tested between 8 00 a.m. and 6 30 p.m .. Retrieval consisted in four memory conditions (Impoverished, Recognition, Natural, and Alternate, fixed order) scanned in separate runs.
In the memory conditions, the target center appeared, and once the participants positioned the cursor in the central target, the peripheral target stayed for 2000 ms, followed by the removal of the peripheral target.
The structure of the reasoning and the memory conditions was very similar, but in the memory task there was no need to integrate the presented information at any moment.
The same stimuli were used for the primary priming task in each of the three memory condition experiments, presented in three separate sessions.
Based on our observations with Notch loss-of-function manipulations in adults [12], we favor the latter explanation, and we are currently testing this model further by examining more complex behaviors such as learning and memory under conditions in which Psn and CBP are compromised in aging animals.
These relationships are due to relatively stronger deactivations during memory load conditions in patients with the strongest CBT response.
Finally, we observed strong associations between a low, or no, response to CBT in patients and reduced deactivation of the regions that were deactivated during the rest/0-back, relative to the memory load, conditions in HC.
