"It felt like a great detail that the music would be integrated into the movie," said Mr. Lambert, who's quick to point out that the movie's emotionally distant patriarch is not based on his own parent, though the record industry memorabilia that fills Sam's studio and is crucial to a sequence in the film does belong to the elder Mr. Lambert.

"Based on that, it was obvious there was interstate transportation of the memorabilia," said Nicodemus.
