Electrical depolarization of the membrane arises from displacement sensitive inward cation flow (Fig. 1c), and this compels a flexoelectric-generated increase in membrane curvature (decrease in radius) due to the interaction between the negatively charged polar lipid membrane heads and the transmembrane electric dipole [5].
