First, the differences in responses of T lymphocytes from healthy donors and patients with SSc were not linked to an alteration in TGF-β receptor level expression, because TGFβRI and TGFβRII mRNA expression in resting PBLs from healthy donors and patients with SSc was not significantly different (Fig. 3a), nor was the membrane expression detected by FACS analysis (data not shown).
