The species composition (as assessed by Sorensen's index) of forest bats differed significantly between seasons (R = 0.204, p = 0.005) and land-use types (R = 0.112, p = 0.031), with significant differences between high-management versus low- and medium-management coffee.
Based on measures of tree species richness, density, basal area, and shade cover, we classified sites as belonging to one of four land-use categories: forest fragments, low-management coffee, medium-management coffee, and high-management coffee; a detailed description of vegetation survey methods and characteristics in the study sites can be found in Williams-Guillén & Perfecto [25].
