Factors that contribute to medication compliance include: cognitive deficits, perceived or actual side effects, lack of patient insight, poor efficacy, lack of social support, problems with the therapeutic alliance, cultural or religious beliefs, complexity of daily treatment regimens, and drug abuse among others [ 10, 16].
The activities during each home visit will include the 4 main following issues: 24-h dietary recalls, blood pressure measurement, medication compliance monitoring including avoidance of nephrotoxic agents (e.g. NSAIDs), exercise monitoring, and 24-h dietary recall.
Drug-related factors that influence patient compliance include tolerability of medication, dosing frequency, dietary restrictions, pill burden, and cost.
Other variables associated with better compliance include psychiatrist follow-up or consumption of other medications (excluding psychoactive drugs) [ 33].
