Since yeast UBC13 plays an essential role in mediating error-free DDT (Broomfield et al. [1998]), these results suggest that OsUBC13 is involved in the error-free DDT pathway in rice as well, although definitive evidence has to wait for the characterization of UBC13 knockdown or knockout rice plants.
These results indicate that the replication-related function of the Mec1-Ddc2 checkpoist is critical for the formation and/or integrity of SCJs mediating error-free DDT.
