For we represent God, in Kant's view, by representing it through other concepts: for instance, God is a necessary substance (A678/B706), so <God> is a mediate representation.
That is, they leave it open that our representation of space could be a concept, rather than an intuition it could be either a general, mediate representation, or a singular, immediate one.
Even if we think that <God> represents only a single entity, that fact does not undermine Kant's view that this concept is a general, mediate representation (cf. Thompson 1972, 318-19, 328-29).
The categories must be "schematized" because their non-empirical origin in pure understanding prevents their having the sort of sensible content that would connect them immediately to the objects of experience; transcendental schemata are mediating representations that are meant to establish the connection between pure concepts and appearances in a rule-governed way.
