For bacterial BAL culture, we used three different media: chocolate Poly ViteX agar, MacConkey agar and blood agar.
Cultures were obtained with swabs (BBLtm CultureSwab™, made by Copan for Becton, Dickinson and Company, Sparks, MD, USA) and plated on three different growth media: chocolate agar, trypticase soy agar with 5% sheep blood, and mannitol salt agar (Remel Products, Lenexa, KS, USA).
