Unfortunately, with smaller letter sizes, the limited total number of pixels means that the gray ones become all too obvious.
The straight line between black and white called gray line means that the gray value changes from black to white.
For each individually analysed cell three values were obtained: mean gray value of the PM, mean gray value of the entire cytosol and mean gray value of the cytosol lacking observable FM 4 64 staining (background intensity).
In detail, red and green represented up- and downregulation, respectively, whereas gray meant the data were lacking.
