Strong correlations exist for individual RNPs between (B ) mean minus end and mean plus end run length, (C ) mean minus end and mean plus end velocity, (D ) mean minus end run length and mean minus end velocity, and (E ) mean plus end run length and mean plus end velocity.
The statistic t value obtained in each case is tested against the Student's t value of 1.96 which corresponds to 48 degrees of freedom (50, which results from the 50 years of monthly data divided by 12 due to the 12-month running mean, minus 2) and 0.025 significance level.
The mean minus end and plus end run lengths were very similar for any given RNP.
Consistent with reversals in these experiments being influenced not just by intrinsic properties of the RNPs but also by the stochastic positioning of MAPs on the microtubule, the correlation between mean minus end and mean plus end travel distance per RNP was reduced in the presence of kin401T99N:mGFP and tau23.
Verhoven et al [ 10] compared the pass/fail rates (on an Individual Statement Questions Examination used in undergraduate medical assessment) derived from the modified Angoff method and the norm – reference method (mean minus 1 SD) and found them to be significantly different – failure rates of 56.5% and 10.1% respectively.
These points are summarized in Figure 2, which compares the performance of all algorithms on a single scale and explores the sensitivity of results to the choice of function for determining PPC [reducing cases to weekly mean, (A) and (B), or weekly mean minus 1 SD, (C) and (D)] and the choice of window of effectiveness [8 weeks, (A) and (C); 24 weeks, (B) and (D)].
According to our standard CT values for muscle and fat, the minimum (min) standard CT value, which was the mean minus 2 SDs, and maximum (max) standard CT value, which was the mean plus 2 SDs, were determined for each tissue.
The two methods of standard – setting, i.e. norm – reference (mean minus 1.0 SD) and modified Angoff method, were compared by looking at the percentage agreement between them.
When a standard deviation around a mean estimate was reported in one of the many sources, we attempted to incorporate some of this uncertainty in the tabular values of Table 1 by including the mean, mean plus standard deviation, and mean minus standard deviation all as independent estimates contributing to the sample.
The upper and lower reference intervals are determined as the mean plus 2SD and mean minus 2SD for each parameter.
