Both groups had a mean mechanical ventilation time and reasos of ICU admission similar, APACHE-II was higher in PDgroup (19.00 vs 26.6 points) and age (61.71 vs 66.71 years).
The average ICU length of stay is 7 days (2 30 days) with a mean mechanical ventilation duration of 48 h (1 10 days) and an inotropic support in 100% of patients.
The mean mechanical ventilation time after procedure was 12.4 days.
Postoperative data showed no significant differences between the two groups in regard to mortality (6.8% versus 6.4%), mean of mechanical ventilation hours (21.2 versus 19.7), days in the ICU (2.6 versus 2.5), hospital days (18.7 versus 17.4), sepsis-associated parameters, Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score, and incidence of renal failure.
No difference in mean duration of mechanical ventilation or mean ventilator-free days was identified between the restrictive transfusion strategy and the liberal transfusion strategy group (Table 4).
Median values of LVEF, laboratory parameters such as CRP, creatinine, and CK, supportive therapy by means of mechanical ventilation, renal replacement therapy, and the use of catecholamines did not differ between cTnI-positive and -negative patients.
Nonetheless, short-term survival can be further improved, most likely by refinements in ancillary therapy and means of mechanical ventilation.
Receipt of rhAPC was associated with reduced in-hospital mortality (35.2% vs. 53.8%, P = 0.005), similar mean days on vasopressors (2 vs. 2, P = 0.90), similar mean days on mechanical ventilation (9 vs. 8.7, P = 0.80), similar mean length of ICU stay in days (11.0 vs. 11.3, P = 0.90), and similar mean length of hospital stay in days (19.5 vs 27, P = 0.11).
