Figure 17 show mean peak base shear for different hazard levels, with structure on different soil conditions for nonlinear base case.
It is found from Fig. 14 that the mean peak base shear values increase with an increase in the height of water and the hazard level of the ground motions.

This means that the base shear is not only a function of the building weight but also a function of the building rigidity.
Most sites were designated as site classes C and D based on the mean shear wave velocity of the upper 30 m from the current Korean seismic design guide.
The Saguaro cactus-inspired cylinder with 24 circumferential grooves was seen to have large reductions (~20%) for mean and fluctuating alongwind base shear (drag) and overturning moments in comparison with smooth cylinders and is in agreement with 2D studies in uniform low turbulence flow.
The results are promising; hence, an important step has been taken towards setting up a method for evaluating cleanability by steady-state CFD simulations based on evaluation of the mean wall shear stresses and the turbulence intensity.
We hope that our improved explanation of what we mean by shear has now resolved this problem.
Interestingly, mean shear stresses increased while mean normal stresses decreased, thus leading to rather invariant mean resultant stresses on the cell surface.
