Such episodic events were observed by Namibrand Nature Reserve authorities e.g. in 2001 and 2011 (seasonal precipitation of 130 and 420 mm, respectively, pers. com ., but may have supported water availability for V. erioloba also a decade ago – considering the age of present individuals.
