Notably, the single time point transcript levels of these genes do not correlate strongly with birth weight, explaining a maximum of 16% of trait variance (and this maximum correlation is obtained only when the stability of the model is reduced to non-zero regression coefficients in only 42 out of 48 "leave one individual out" validations).
