The traditional parameter which describes the sharpness of an SC is the maximum time variation of the SC (Shinohara et al., 2005) which is calculated over the period of SC increase as shown in Fig. 2.
In the algorithm proposed by Shinohara et al. (2005) the decision is given based on three parameters, which are the amplitude, the time required for the increase and maximum time variation, which means that the delay is more than the time required for an increase which ranges from 2 10 minutes.
