This meant they didn't carry any extra weight in their legs, which is one of the burdens that limits the maximum body size of birds today.
Although our body size estimate of M. paranensis is considerably smaller than previous published accounts17, it is still more than triple the maximum body size of extant S. rhombeus15.
The aim of this study was to investigate how these species flap their wings for sustainable flight under natural conditions and to predict an absolute value for the maximum body size of albatross-like soarers.
