Further development and introduction of maternal health technologies designed for use in low-resource settings will help to save many women's lives.
Because many women in low-resource settings lack access to basic maternal health technologies and services, more than 30 women die each hour from complications related to pregnancy and childbirth, mostly in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia [ 3, 4].
