This study aims to understand what effect, in terms of inter-analysis variation and analyst accuracy, different raw material types have on modern technological analyses of lithic assemblages.
To date, four major material types have been investigated, being cadmium compounds, silicon, metal oxide nanoparticles and low band gap nanoparticles.
Both of these material types have their good and bad points.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and metal oxide NPs (two material types having the highest industrial production volumes) are used in plastics, catalysts, battery and fuel cell electrodes, solar cells, paints, coatings, etc. (Klaine et al. 2008).
This material type has the capability to consider concrete cracking; crushing and plastic behaviour.
This work has found that while, as expected, the material type has the largest effect on the shear cell results, the consolidation at which the material was tested and the tester type are also statistically significant effects.
Carbon materials of various types have been extensively used as negative electrode materials for rechargeable Li-ion batteries because of their consistent performance and potentialities.
Although the mechanical behavior of granular materials of various types have been studied extensively for several decades, the dynamic behavior of such materials remains poorly understood.
Since it was proposed in [11, 12], many materials of several types have been characterized with this technique.
Recycled materials of various types have been used as substitutes for coarse recycled aggregates and natural sand in the manufacture of concrete.
Biocompatible materials of different types have been applied, but the results of this strategy are still debated.
