Grain size becomes finer inland, and layers become thinner (Fig. 7), which indicates the transportation of material from the sea-side such as beach and/or ocean (Dawson 1994).
Deeper into the ice the layers become more compressed and annual layers become indistinguishable.
At intermediate ratios, the layers become highly disordered.
In plant cell walls, these layers become lignified.
However, optimization of cells has been carried out with just a few materials and recent findings show that new developments can be very successful if a broader scope of materials in the composite layers becomes accessible.
After fixation with glutaraldehyde-OsO4-tannic acid, a film of electron dense material external to the TL-layer is recognisable, probably due to a precipitation of tannic acid; moreover, the inner polysaccharide layer becomes more evident.
After this, the Esb layer becomes weaker.
