It is commonly used to describe the act of using or depleting physical resources, such as materials or products. Example: The government aims to reduce the material consumption of plastic bags by implementing a tax on their usage.
In this paper we examine this idea by comparing material consumption of two informal settlements to one moderate socio-economic status (SES) neighbourhood in Suva, Fiji.
