These stimuli have previously been used in fMRI studies in people with anorexia nervosa (AN) and HCs; the size of the images in the compression format JPG was used as an exploratory measure for objective visual complexity, and images of the body and interior design pictures were matched for visual complexity [ 17, 38].
Food- and non-food pictures were matched for visual complexity and to account for alterations in the periphery and at the level of the blood brain barrier, insulin was administered intranasally to enter the brain via the olfactory nerve and bulb without affecting metabolic parameters in the periphery [19], [20].
