CT findings that suggest malignant intestinal obstruction are the presence of irregular parietal thickening or a mass with soft-tissue density at the point of transition [ 42- 44].
Abdominal computed tomography (CT) scanning confirmed an irregular mass with soft-tissue density near the left renal hilum, invading the parenchyma.
This technique, combined with methods for identification of proteins from gels, such as N-terminal sequencing [15, 16] and mass spectrometry with soft ionization procedures [17 19], made it possible to perform protein analysis at a genomics scale [20].
On CT scans, thymomas usually appear as homogeneous solid masses with soft-tissue attenuation and well-demarcated borders, located anywhere from the thoracic inlet to the cardiophrenic angle.
But as pasta grew in popularity – and "profit margins came into play", Delia mutters darkly – pastas that ought to remain dry were mass-produced with soft flour and eggs, which Delia derides as "slithery, slimy gloop".
While these methods certainly will provide an important leap in understanding complex biological regulatory circuits, the analytical techniques, mainly relying on mass spectrometry combined with soft ionization methods, are still more suitable for focusing on an individual candidate protein than on global effects [ 44, 54].
Angiomyolipomas manifest as fat-containing renal masses with common soft tissue components as well as enhancing blood vessels within them; they almost always alter the renal contour (Fig. 4).
At contrast-enhanced CT, NPC in children is demonstrated as a homogeneously enhancing soft tissue mass with infiltration of adjacent soft tissues and skull base erosion seen in the majority.
In most cases, CT shows poorer differentiation of tumor edges from the surrounding muscle planes in comparison with ultrasonography and MRI: the tumor appears as a semilunar mass of soft tissue with a density similar to that of the adjacent musculature, containing linear areas of low density secondary to fat.
Vectors above or below the minor axis (meaning upper-left or lower-right half of ellipses) are associated with more or less cell mass in soft tissues, respectively, with extremes along the minor axis.
Coronal contrast-enhanced CT shows a large fatty right retroperitoneal mass with areas of soft tissue density (arrow) and coarse calcification (arrowhead).
