Systematic experiments were conducted in the TMS for examining the 220Rn mitigation characteristics with respect to a host of parameters such as flow rate, pressure drop, charcoal grain size, charcoal mass and bed depth, water content, and heat of the carrier gas.
This "gulf streaming" became more pronounced as the total bed mass, and therefore the bed height, was increased, resulting in a bed turn-over time almost independent of the total bed mass.
With respect to the neuromuscular system, it appears that resistance exercise (strength training) is effective to maintain, or at least to minimize changes in muscle mass and strength during bed rest (Akima et al. 2001; Ferrando et al. 1997; Kawakami et al. 2001).
Such models must describe the transport phenomena within the substrate bed and mass and energy exchanges between the bed and the other subsystems of the bioreactor, such as the bioreactor wall and headspace gases.
To optimize the width D1, height D2 of the ribbed slab and the panels' thickness D3 of the bed structure as shown in Figure 13, the minimum bed mass and rail deformation are treated as the optimization goals.

The three other facies are poorly sorted mass wasting deposits up to pebble size, silt representing the finer fraction of the mobilised mass, and a tsunami-related bed into which plant debris and artefacts got amalgamated.
The particles clearly showed high reactivity, with a maximum gas yield between866% and 93% in the temperature interval 750 °C to 950 °C when using a bed mass and a gas flow corresponding to only 6 kg/MWfuel.
