The store, which opens Wednesday, will occupy 2,000 square feet and will be patterned after Dr. Martens stores in London and Paris.
WOMEN who fondly remember wearing their chunky "Doc Martens" with baby doll dresses will want to make a pilgrimage to the new Dr. Martens flagship store in SoHo, which is based on its Northhamptonshire factory yet has the reverential feel of a fine arts gallery.
She'll need to have them fumbling around in welder's yards, or steaming up the glass display case at the suffragette exhibition in the Museum of London, or getting "hot under the collar" among all the boxes of DMs in the store room at the back of the Dr Martens shop in Camden Town.
Permira is thought likely to try to expand Dr Martens' online and store presence into new international markets.
"Fresh-ground grains taste entirely different from the flour you buy at the grocery store," said Mary-Howell Martens, who sells organic feed and seed in Penn Yan, N.Y., and grinds her own flour at home.
And even as the city's unemployment broadly remains high, vintage clothing stores selling patent-leather Dr. Martens boots for 180 euros, or $235, entice technology transplants from across Europe with promotions in English.
Financed by Co-operative Food and Pharmacy stores the Trust has launched the People and Pine Martens in Wales project to improve habitats, inform conservation plans and understand more about where this nocturnal carnivore lives.
Dr. Martens, the British shoe maker, had plenty of places to choose from in deciding where to open its first store in the United States.
