The word 'marshland' is a correct and usable word in written English
You can use it to describe a wetland area that is typically covered in grasses, reeds, and other vegetation. It is often found near bodies of water and can be a valuable ecosystem for plant and animal life. Example: The scientist trekked through the marshland, carefully navigating through the tall grasses and avoiding the murky ponds. She was searching for rare species of birds that were known to inhabit the area.
Geographically, too, the land is compact: a five-hour drive over the spine of the Southern Alps will take you through a dozen entirely different landscapes – beach river valley marshland rainforest gorge foothill highland alps plains peninsula beach –and each with its own weather, its own skies, its own quality of light.
