Inflammation markers rates were normalized and stabilized during the follow-up (Fig. 2).
For instance, we extracted a tree collection from the OrthoMam database [ 7] by performing a request aimed at selecting trees inferred from slow evolving markers (rate ≤ 0.5) of reasonable size (length > 1000 nucleotide sites).
Interestingly, a high number of markers (rates varying from 88.2% to 94.1%) showed transferability to the species X. brasiliense, X. robustum, X. violaceum, X. atrovirens, and X. blandum, suggesting high phylogenetic proximity of these species with X. sagittifolium.
A system with a high false-marker rate is likely to degrade reader performance and would be unacceptable in a screening programme [ 25- 27].
Continued refinements of algorithm design are being made to provide increased sensitivity for cancer detection while diminishing the false marker rate.
For each marker, rates of incident diabetes were higher for participants in higher quartiles compared with the lowest quartile (Table 2).
A preferred method to compare CAD systems is to determine the sensitivity and false marker rates on the same set of 'truth' cases.
In view of the high false marker rate with CAD, arbitrating all cases where there is discordance between the single reader and CAD would be equivalent to double reading with CAD and would not be cost effective [ 39].
In the present study, algorithm thresholds were adjusted to give a detection sensitivity of approximately 85% for masses and 98% for calcifications, with corresponding false-marker rates of 1.5 and 1.0, respectively, per four-film case.
Data on the same case sets (Current and Prior Mammograms) for a new, recently FDA approved (April 2000) algorithm (version 2.2) will be presented, which demonstrate improvements in the mass code and a further 20% decrease in the false marker rate.
