In this respect, the identification of Sox2 transcripts as the earliest marker of inner cells of the embryo should be noted [19].
Sox2 expression is essential during embryogenesis; Sox2 homozygous null embryos die soon after implantation [4] and Sox2 is the earliest marker of inner cells prior to ICM formation [19].
