Experimental results show that APFS has a faster filter propagation and a higher attack blocking ratio than existing approaches that use fixed marking probability.
EBM is to handle the problems found in other marking schemes regarding fairness among heterogeneous TCP flows through a tight feedback-loop operation and adaptation of the packet marking probability to network conditions.
The analytical framework allows us to evaluate system performance in terms of both marking probability, defined as the probability that the output traffic is not compliant with the specifications, and quantization distortion.
The model is then linearized to derive a transfer function representation between the packet marking probability and the bottleneck router queue length as the input and output of the modified TCP Vegas/AQM system.
The analysis is based on the consideration of two extreme congestion scenarios that leads to the derivation of upper and lower bounds for the queue length and marking probability dynamics and showing that they approach each other in steady state.
In APFS, a filter router adaptively calculates its own marking probability based on three factors: 1) hop count from a sender, 2) the filter router's resource availability, and 3) the filter router's link degree.
Fast response, low queue fluctuations (and consequently low delay jitter), high link utilization, good disturbance rejection, scalability, and low packet marking probability are other features of the developed method with respect to other well-known AQM methods such as RED, PI, and REM which are also simulated for comparison.
