The presence or absence of superficial (one-third of depth) or deep (at least two-thirds of depth) scalloping (i.e. focal resorption of the inner margin of cortical bone), cortical bone destruction and periosteal reaction was recorded.
The results indicated that new bone formed originally from the margin of host bone, and then grew toward the center of defects.
The nerve roots could be identified stretched over the sharp fractured margin of iliac bone close to the lateral articular margin of the sacrum (Fig. 2a).

The presence of tightly spaced growth marks within relatively avascular tissues in the outer margin of the bone cortex (the external fundamental system, or EFS, of some authors, e.g. Horner et al. [ 16], or the outer circumferential layer, or OCL, following Cormack [ 17]) has been used to infer somatic maturity in sampled individuals [ 7, 14, 15].
There were no fibrogenic tumours detected in the metacarpals or carpals.The following Figures 3, 4 and 5 illustrate the most often-occurring tumour types in the hand which surpassed the 5% margin of all bone tumours of the hand in the current dataset.
