Plant materials were obtained from two A. auriculiformis × A. mangium F1 mapping populations, namely Wood Density (WD) and Fiber Length (FL) population.
This set also included parental genotypes of published mapping populations, namely JI281, JI399 and JI15 [ 45], cv 'Terese', K586 which is a mutant obtained from Torsdag [ 46, 7] Champagne [ 7, 20], JI296 and DP [ 12].
The present study was undertaken to improve the marker density of genetic maps from two separate mapping populations namely an E. oleifera × E. guineensis (tenera) interspecific cross and a dura × pisifera intraspecific cross which segregate for FAC and for yield components, respectively [ 9, 17].
The two morphological traits, namely awns colour and leaf hairiness, were found to segregate in a 1 3 ratio in the MDR308 × MDR002 T. monococcum mapping population.

However, only 259 BES-SSR markers were integrated on genetic maps based on three populations, namely, ICC 4958 × PI 489777 (inter-specific mapping population) and ICC 4958 × ICC 1882 and ICC 283 × ICC 8261 (intra-specific populations) (Supplementary Table 1).
The mapping population consisting of 310 F7 RILs was evaluated at three locations across India namely, Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, IARI Regional Station, Karnal, Haryana and Rice Breeding and Genetics Research Centre (RBGRC), Aduthurai, Tamilnadu during the wet season, 2006.
