A case-control study and geographic mapping of cases were performed.
Mapping of cases by residential location showed expansion of the geographic range of serovar Arborea, concentrating mostly around Brisbane, Cairns and Innisfail.
Most importantly, comprehensive spatial decision support systems that incorporate GIS are invaluable, as they enable mapping of cases and interventions, automated foci identification, and targeted responses.
Evaluation tools, such as interviews, focus group discussions, document analyses, or mapping of cases against evaluation frameworks, were identified in 12 studies and commonly analysed in a qualitative approach.
Real-time surveillance with mapping of cases in space and in time, preferably supported by genotyping, is required to identify an outbreak in a community, healthcare facility [ 151], correctional facility [ 152] or in other specific settings or risk groups [ 153, 154].
