Another (recursive) mapping for leaf-to-root paths of binary trees raises interesting combinatorial problems.
In particular, based on Latinsquares, we propose an optimal and balanced mapping for leaf-to-root paths of q-ary trees.

Under this scheme, all differentially expressed genes for two tissues, for example root and leaf, are given by the genes in the root (left) to leaf (bottom) cell plus the genes in the leaf (left) to root (bottom) cell.
For this, we normalized the number of reads mapped to each transcript per million (TPM) mapped for root and leaf tissues and considered transcripts to be expressed specifically in a single tissue (root or leaf) if they showed at least 3 TPM in the tissue of interest and zero in the other.
In the Phytomedicine Programme we evaluated and determined the biological activities of tree leaf extracts for medicinal purposes because of the sustainability of leaf harvest compared to roots and stems.
Figure 4 shows that the functional roles of putative tissue-specific genes are similar for leaf, stem, and peg compared to root.
Five genes showed differential expression both in roots and leaf, whereas six and ten genes were unique to root and leaf, respectively.
The new activity involves the same concepts of reproduction with variation, natural selection, and adaptation but uses a water-to-root mapping, rather than a light-to-leaf mapping.
Because MinFlip, RFS, and PhySIC require that the source trees be rooted, we rooted each source tree at the midpoint of the longest leaf-to-leaf path (a standard method for rooting trees when there is no outgroup available) before passing the source trees to these three methods.
