There are over 5,000 passerine species with many unique traits and adaptations [ 11].
African rice has many unique traits that make it a suitable crop for low input, subsistence agriculture, such as a tolerance to salt, drought, flooding, pest resistance, weed competitiveness, and the ability to grow on infertile, acid soils.
Here, we generated and annotated the first comprehensive transcriptome resource for three glyptosternoid fishes that are endemic to the Tibetan Plateau, and show many unique traits that have enabled their adaptation to highland environments compared to three other catfish species from the plains using RNA-seq technology.
Here, using the next-generation sequencing technology, we have generated and annotated the first comprehensive transcriptome resources for a schizothoracine fish (G. pachycheilus), which is endemic to the Tibetan Plateau and shows many unique traits to adapt to highland environments (Wu Y and Wu C 1991; Su et al. 2014).
A monophyletic origin of the Pinaceae genera was supported by many unique traits such as P-type plastids (i.e., plastids accumulating protein as a single product or in addition to starch; Behnke 1974), the 4-tiered proembryos (Dogra 1980), lack of flavonoids (Geiger and Quinn 1975), and an unusual indel at nucleotide position 195 of the nuclear 18S rRNA gene (Chaw et al. 1997).

This result suggests that the many autapomorphies (unique traits) of the false catshark evolved relatively recently, and supports the grouping of Pseudotriakis and Gollum together in the family Pseudotriakidae.
The maps will also further a general understanding of the evolution of many other unique traits in this group including vision, color pattern, and salinity tolerance.
"Our new estimate of the younger age in a way makes this species even more fascinating because it has so many of these unique traits relative to other pupfish," says Christopher Martin, a biologist at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, who led the study.
Since most giant subfossil lemurs have been shown to share many of the unique traits of their living counterparts, and not those of monkeys, Godfrey et al. (2003) argued that the energy frugality hypothesis seems to best explain both living and extinct lemur adaptations.
Alternatively, if the crop is distantly related to a sexually compatible wild species or the wild progenitor and crop lineages have evolved independently for many generations, the crop may contain unique traits that contribute to phenotypic evolution in weedy relatives via hybridization.
One might wonder, "So what if a local colony of an otherwise common species disappears?" I mean, this butterfly can be found abundantly in many other places, albeit without the special unique traits that they have at those two mountaintops.
