Many strains, such as MSSA476 and N315, were unable to grow on emulsion agar plates containing 1 mM linoleic acid (Fig. 1A).
Coliform bacteria are not a single type of bacteria, but a group of bacteria that includes many strains, such as E. coli.
Within the authentic Leptolyngbya clade (Clade A, Fig. 1), many strains, such as L. boryana IAM M-101, L. boryana PCC 6306, and Leptolyngbya sp. PCC 73110, fix nitrogen under anaerobic conditions (note that L. boryana strain dg5 is a dark-adapted strain derived from strain IAM M-101).

Many fungal strains such as Paecilomyces varioti [ 22], Aspergillus niger [ 23], and Penicillium simplicissimum [ 24] are also found to be suitable for succinate production.
Its spectrum of activity is similar to that of vancomycin, with excellent activity against Gram positive pathogens, including many resistant strains, such as MRSA[ 9].

The variability of CRISPR spacers might be used to type certain species, but only in combination with other markers, as many strains are devoid of such systems.
