This study establishes a real-size 3D fluid dynamics model of the air-side manifold of an industrial 5-kW proton exchange membrane fuel cell stack containing 67 cells.
To prevent that a "blow-off" valve, which dumps surplus compressed air into the atmosphere, is fitted between the turbocharger and the inlet manifold.On the exhaust side, a "wastegate" regulates the turbocharger's output by bleeding off some of the hot exhaust gas so that it bypasses the turbine.
Low-pressure reactive vapour transport was carried out by connecting a chemically resistant, two-stage rotary pump, downstream for the purpose of controlling the partial pressures of O2 and Ar which were supplied to the QT via a micro-flow leak valve connected after the mass flow controller manifold on the upstream side.
