We compared clinical appearances of maxillary & mandibular ridge in rats.
Fig. 3 Representative photographs of gross clinical appearance of maxillary & mandibular ridge in rats(All sacrificed 8 weeks after extraction).
In the previous study, bone formation was noticed with the distal implant in severely resorbed atrophied mandibular ridge [20].

The unique requirements of the mandibular ridge geometry and the intraoral environment are that traditional bone tissue engineering technologies, created primarily to fill bone defects, be modified and optimized for maximal effect in the protruding alveolar ridge site.
Block and Degen had reported that particulate human mineralized bone can be successfully used to augment the thin posterior mandibular ridge through the minimal invasive horizontal ridge augmentation (MIHRA) method introduced in this report [13].

Block and Degen [17] used the tunneling technique for lateral augmentation in 13 posterior mandibular ridges, using human mineralized particulate bone and followed it up with placement of 35 implants in the grafted sites.
In addition, the changes in the vertical bone height of Groups 1 and 2 were compared in the maxillary and mandibular ridges.
Radiographically, atrophy of the mandibular alveolar ridge in the same teeth site was observed.
After a 2-month bone healing period, anodized titanium implants (8 mm in length) were placed 5.5 mm into the mandibular alveolar ridge.
The technique is especially applicable for mandibular edentulous ridges.
