Scotland's Lothian Councils, the governing bodies for an area of the Southeast known as the Lothians, have put forth a plan to give each of the area's 60,000 students an Internet-enabled PDA with the goal of making pupils more involved in their studies.
Lecturers want "less predictable" A-level exams, fewer re-sits and questions which are more open-ended and which would make pupils think for themselves.
But teachers at schools make pupils feel equally talented, because this makes them popular with the parents and pupils.
The aim is to make the pupils more emotionally articulate.
The hope is the extra money can raise expectations and performance and make these pupils more socially mobile.
Improving self-talk – making pupils' inner monologues more positive – can be used to boost productivity, and changing their mindsets to see big events as opportunities rather than threats can also help.
Hearing firsthand the stories of brutality has made pupils at the school more likely to speak out about extremism, says 15-year-old student Zishaan Hussain, who says Isis have "ruined the reputation of Islam and Muslims" and given a false impression of his religion.
