A confocal laser scanning microscopy analysis showed that P. fluorescens WCS365 and P. chlororaphis PCL1391 are able to effectively colonize the tomato rhizosphere [ 134], and the major traits for niche competition were identified [ 135].
Indeed, a number of these proteins have been proposed as major traits for allowing opportunistic pathogens, including Bacteroides fragilis, to colonise mucus layers, breach host barriers, and invade the mucosae.
The assembly of more than 54000 Citrus ESTs from five cultivars differing in basic fruit developmental aspects, such as major traits for fruit quality and production, and in the responses to environmental conditions, provides an unprecedented insight of the Citrus transcriptome.

Several known mutations are available that drastically reduce or obliterate development of major structural traits, for instance.
