The idealisation of Dutch cycling in the British cycling press omits to mention that being a respected, mainstream means of transport incurs responsibilities as well as offering rights.
But the small-scale, bolt-on bike provision just reminds us again that despite progress on many fronts, cycling is not yet considered a serious, mainstream form of transport.
"We designed the Cowboy bike to appeal specifically to people who are yet to be convinced that electric bikes are a practical and mainstream mode of transport," says Adrien Roose, Cowboy's CEO, in a statement.
Ohio-native Charles Kettering invented the self-starter for the automobile, an advancement which contributed to the mainstreaming of the transport.
For instance, South Africa's violence problem is even viewed as an obstacle to the mainstreaming of alternative modes of transport, including walking and cycling.
This proposed among other things better trains, more integrated bus routes and other road-based transport, and the "mainstreaming of non-motorised transport" such as cycling and walking.
And as car sharing becomes mainstream, reducing car ownership and enhancing other forms of transport such as public transport will make transitioning the fleet to EVs even easier.
The result has been that bicycling, once a niche, even antiauthoritarian, mode of transport, has entered the New York mainstream, and cyclists and pedestrians alike are trying to adjust.
"It's always been an invisible mode of transport, we just need to bring it back to the mainstream from the backburner," he said.
Several distinct dew-points are shown to exist in such systems (depending upon one's operational definition or method of detection), and, as a result of transport constraints, the "sharp" locus between two chemically distinct condensates is systematically moved to a difference mainstream composition.
