The final result of our research was a fully operational prototype for energy consumption analysis at mains power sockets with low-power radio communication in the 868-MHz band.
As such, we developed a system to measure energy consumption directly at mains power sockets and transfer the data to a server were it can be viewed and analyzed by the end user.
If the relay forwards data from many devices, the power consumption would increase and mains powering should be considered.
Following, the mains results have been identified: Water consumptions were in the range 7.2 7 L/student/day and 13.6 14.2 L/student/day in the case of network without water leakage and network with water leakage (the most common situation), respectively; Water leakage was 54.8 % of the total water consumption.
They include antenna selection and its connector, power consumption, power range and reversed DC mains, and high AC voltage supply.
In this article, we present a system for energy measurement at mains sockets to gain a transparent view of energy consumption for each device in a household.
In addition, this system allowed for a reduction in CO2 emissions amounting to 16.0 tonnes over a life-time of 20 years due to the reduction in electrical power drawn from the grid and gas taken from the mains for water heating, and a 14-tonne corresponding displacement of primary fossil-fuel consumption.
