This type of Lower Paleolithic assemblage, with dense LCT accumulations, has only been found on the African continent and in the Near East until now.
At control locations, characterised with significantly lower fish assemblage abundances, the most abundant species were sand smelt A. hepsetus and mullet Mugilidae species in summer, sand smelt A. hepsetus and seddled bream O. melanura in autumn, sand smelt A. hepsetus and picarel Spicara flexuosa in winter, sand smelt A. hepsetus and bogue B. boops in spring.
The plant material, representing a rare extensive Lower Devonian assemblage in western North America, is also receiving renewed attention with flora from both Beartooth Butte and neighbouring Cottonwood Canyon being described [ 23- 25].
