Taking these parameters into consideration, it is reasonable to perform sophisticated 3D sequences with higher spatial resolution and longer echo time including a susceptibility-weighted image (SWI) and the principles of echo-shifting with a train of observations (PRESTO) image to detect MB and SS [9, 10].
This longer echo time was used to accommodate the large matrix size.
At longer echo time the lipid signals will be reduced due to short relaxation time [ 26], and in seven of the fourteen spectra obtained at TE 144, a small peak of NAA could be observed.
A longer echo time enables more efficient detection of MBs than a shorter one due to the blooming effect [9].
Finally, the echo time was longer in the full FOV acquisition than in the zoomed acquisition – the longer echo time (37 ms, compared to 30 ms) would have a negative impact on the SNR for the full FOV acquisition (an 8% decrease).
The signal-to-noise ratio is considerably greater than at longer echo time for the same number of acquisitions, indicating short metabolite T2 values.

In a normal voxels are displayed demonstrating the appearance of short TE metabolites (i.e., sI scyllo-inositol) not evident at longer echo timesI scyllo-inositol
This might be the consequence of the dependence of microvascular perfusion fraction on the echo time [4], since longer echo times cause greater signal decay at low b-values.
Spectral appearance and spin-spin relaxation properties of further metabolites that might be changing in the NAWM (e.g. glutamate, glutamine, myo-Inositol and lipids) favour the measurements with shorter echo time, whereas flatter spectral baseline at longer echo times increases the precision of the NAA, Cr and Cho measurements.
The longer echo-time (TE ≥ 180 ms) T2-weighted sequences are particularly useful for distinguishing between cystic and solid lesions.
Ultrashort echo time.
