In situ cosmogenic nuclide concentrations such as 10Be and 26Al are directly related to denudation rate, allowing quantification on long-term timescales (Gosse and Phillips 2001).
Energy policy is beset by deep uncertainties, owing to the scale of future transitions, the long-term timescales for action, and numerous stakeholders.
Therefore, as shown by Chen et al. [3, 4], higher Rb/Sr ratios in a loess/paleosol profile correlated to higher degree of weathering, and thus to stronger monsoon precipitation on long-term timescales.
Our results support the view that mutators may not able to persist on long-term timescales in nature (de Visser 2002).
Therefore, considering the relationship between precipitation and Rb/Sr ratios, we can get a relationship of "higher precipitation ~ lower Rb/Sr ratios" on long term timescale, which is just opposite with the relationship of "higher precipitation~ higher Rb/Sr ratios" on decadal scale (as shown in Fig. 5).
