But in all these cases, males have their loci shifted towards longer wavelengths, which reiterates the general finding that males require a longer wavelength than females to experience the same hue sensation.
In our hands, a subset of four 35S GFP-COP1 transgene loci shifted from a cosuppressing state, bona fide PTGS, to a non-cosuppressing state, i.e. TGS, within two transgenic generations.
The percent methylation values per base for each sample group demonstrated that the majority of loci in DFS and H were methylated (major peak close to 1), whereas MBC had a significant proportion of loci shifted to the left indicating low methylation states and hypomethylation compared to H and DFS (Fig. 1a).

A demonstration of shifts in allele frequency confirms that evolution has occurred – but genomes contain thousands to millions of loci, making shifts at some of them inevitable in all situations.
For all genes in this locus, the shift in parental bias is accompanied by a reduction in the expression level of the maternal allele and to a lesser extent in the paternal allele.
In contrast, when we compared genomic DNA from Mmix (46, XY) with Fmix (46, XX), the distribution of fluorescence ratios for chromosome X loci was shifted to a mean value of 0.69 (expected 0.5; Fig. 2C, D).
Similarly, when we compared genomic DNAs from 47, XXX 48, XXXX and 49, XXXXX cell lines using Fmix DNA, the distribution of fluorescence ratios for chromosome X loci was shifted to mean log2 values of 1.37, 1.62 and 2.08, respectively (expected 1.5, 2.0, 2.5; Fig. 2C, D), reflecting the increase in chromosome X DNA copy-number.
