The DUS filter papers were dried for 3 h and then stored in paper bags in a dry location at room temperature (RT; 25 30°C) for either 1 week or 4 weeks until the analyses took place.
The arena was illuminated from above by a jitter-free fluorescent tube (Osram W58/L12 daylight LUMILUX de Luxe, Osram GmbH, Munich, Germany) with a light intensity at the arena location of approximately 4,000 Lux, at a temperature of 25±2°C and r.h. of 40%.
The greatest number of DEGs that varied by location at control temperature were observed in the 24 hour samples (n = 294).
(3) Thermal performance curves could exhibit counter-gradient variation, whereby populations from cooler locations outperform populations from warmer locations at all temperatures (Fig. 1c).
(2) Thermal performance curves could exhibit co-gradient variation, whereby populations from warmer locations tend to outperform populations from cooler locations at all temperatures (Fig. 1b).
By 48 hours, the number of genes that differed by location at control temperatures dropped dramatically to only 39 with very few transcripts (n = 16) carried over from 24 hours (Table S3).
Action potentials were measured at the same location at both temperatures.
While the mesh-like heave structure is damaged by friction, Ti and Cr atoms diffusion could continuously supplement the heave structure at the damaged locations at high temperature, enduing the mesh-like heave structure with the self-healing ability.
Because evaporation exceeds precipitation over the Mediterranean (and generally the Atlantic), both salinity and conductivity are elevated compared to other locations at similar temperatures.
The stress response genes recombination repair protein 1 (andB392) and soma ferritin (CAON1101) showed differences between the two locations at control temperatures.
(1) Thermal optima could be locally adapted to match the thermal environment, such that populations from warmer locations outperform populations from cooler locations at higher temperatures, but populations from cooler locations outperform populations from warmer locations at cooler temperatures (Fig. 1a).
